How To Set Up An Online Store
There’s a right way and a wrong way to do anything. If you have a hardware store, you set it up so that your customers can easily find anything they want quickly and easily. The store is divided up into sections and everything is clearly marked. Nobody feels lost when they enter the store, because everything can easily be found.
Imagine that your website’s homepage is the entrance to a hardware store. You want the people who enter your store to be able to find what they want without hassles. If they want a chainsaw, they can walk straight to the chainsaw department.
When they get to the chainsaws, they don’t want to find only one chainsaw to choose from. They may be thinking they want to buy a husqvarna chainsaw, but if they don’t have a number of them to choose from, your odds of selling them one are limited. You need a full range of huskies for them to decide between.
Besides that, you will want them to notice the other brands you’ve got and especially the ones you’ve got on sale. If you’ve got an echo chainsaw on sale, make sure they know it’s there.
Not everybody who comes into your store for a chainsaw is going to want a husqvarna or an echo. Some people will be looking for a mcculloch chainsaw or some other brand. You need to have them all and the customer needs to be able to compare their features. That way, you are almost sure to make a sale.
So the first thing you need to do is make your homepage easily navigable. You want people to be able to find what they want. You also want to lead them to items they aren’t even looking for, but may buy anyway. Taking the hardware store example a step further, if somebody goes into the hardware store for a box of nails and they see a hammer on sale next to the nails, they are probably going to walk out of the store with a new hammer as well.
When you’re setting up your online store, think about the related items you can sell. Sometimes, they may be your biggest sellers. For example, if you have a specialty bookshop, think about selling ebooks, audio books and ereaders, too. The ereaders, especially, are expensive. Therefore, your commission on the sale of just one of these will be the equivalent of many books.
You can see that there are a number of things to consider when you’re setting up an online store. Cover all your bases and you maximize your chances of converting a visit into a sale. Finally, when people do go to your virtual checkout counter, make sure it’s set up so they can quickly and easily make their purchase. Your website is your store. Set it up like you would any other store and you’re on the right track.
