Sustainable business practices lead to a greener planet

With with global resource problems and pollution escalating in the late 1960’s, environmentalism has grown from a radical movement to a mainstream concern for the vast proportion of people on the planet. So now, it’s gone mainstream and highly topical.

Why it’s good for the planet if we were all “green”

There are many expressions that are used frequently in this discussion. Way back in 1987 the Brutland Commission succinctly identified that being green, or sustainable meant, “Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”.

This states the target clearly and succinctly. What it really means is that consumers, companies, communities, governments need to change behaviors to go green.

Sustainability demands that, ideally, all  personal behaviors, business practices and government decisions should be carried out with the idea in mind that they will have an impact on  the planet, its resources and its future inhabitants. Changed behaviors should follow.

Making Earth green…

Opportunities for your business from going green, and being green will help you stand out from competitors in your industry. When you’ve done some work on greening your organisation, you will perhaps have some clever green products to put to market. As you set about marketing those products, be sure to ”put on the table” only the green credentials able to be corroborated.

Absolutely, green business is roaring ahead and it is becoming more in the minds of people. Whilst the Global Financial Crisis has caused the industry to stabilize, there are opportunities for businesses with green gifts and other fare, to market their green consumer goods, even more so where they are keenly priced.

The methodology of creating green businesses is no great mystery. But green business must have green consumers, so both MUST grow side by side.

When this becomes known, the planet will slowly move to being”greener”.
